Yesterday I went and got a cake and had it personalized for a co-worker on her last day at work today. She was retiring with like 40+ years of government service. She was surprised and happy. It irritated me that the managers hadn't done this. I know she wasn't the most popular person at work but everyone deserves a cake when the leave a job or retire. It just seemed like a nice thing to do and I'm glad it made her happy.

Also the mysterious snuff master has started throwing their snuff cans in my yard again. It is really annoying that they seem to only do it in our yard. I would love to catch them doing it someday.

Mowed the lawn again. All the rain we had gotten last week caused a big growth spurt. The yard looks pretty good now but It really needs me to spend at least two hours twice a week to keep it up. Unfortunately I currently don't have the time. Maybe after I retire I'll be able to spend more time working on it.

First mow of the year. Not really that long and only did side and back to chop up some leaves and I also trimmed two of the back yard bushes. Used my new switch blade saw to finally remove that tree the was growing between my and my neighbors fence. It works really well too.

The year is in it's final month and we have been very busy for awhile now. Finished building all the shelves that we currently have. M got all the Blu-rays, DVDs and CDs in order. We can now find stuff which is great. Down in the Man Cave put up some of the same shelves down here although these are white. Got all my Manga in them and in order too. Need more shelves for the paperback collection but those can wait until next year. Putting things away and removing boxes really helps make are house feel more like home.

I am rather proud of myself today. The flapper on my man cave toilet failed. So it wouldn't flush right. So I gutted out the toilet and put all new hardware in it. Down to a new hose for water intake. The amazing thing is it actually works. Normally I do this kind of thing with my Dad since he knows how to do this stuff right. I just followed the directions and remembered stuff from when I did this last with my Dad and thankfully it actually worked. Yay me. ;)

Haven't updated in a while. Been really busy with learning the new job and finally finished with my training. I can honesty say that I'm not bad at this new job. At first I was worried that all my experience with working on various air traffic control equipment would be going to waste here. Turns out I was wrong if anything my experience has greatly helped me in learning my job. After meeting some of the other new people coming here with little or very specialized experience struggling with learning this job I really don't feel so bad about myself anymore.
On the house front unpacking continues at a slow but steady pace. Built some shelves in the Man Cave and have unpacked lots of books. Still have many more to go. The house is a lot more work to keep up than the previous house. The yard is huge compared to the old one. The old one took around 15 to 20 mins to mow. New one over an hour and a half. I use the time wisely I listen to audio books. Terry Pratchett & Stephen Baxter's Long Earth series have been a couple that I've enjoyed listening to. The books give a very different take on parallel worlds. I've found both books to be very interesting and fun to read.
Been trying to exercise more since my new job is much more sedentary than my last one.

Got up to feed the cats this morning Maria was sleeping sound and I needed to get up anyway for work.

It has gotten cold again. Actually I should say back to normal. Yesterday while it was still warm I did my first mowing of the grass this year which was much earlier than usual. Even if the grass doesn't grow much because of this cold snap at least the yard will be less shaggy than it was.

Another evening of Big Bang Theory with Maria. Lots laughs and geeky goodness.

Since Maria is doing it to her office I figure I should do mine. Throwing out a bunch of stuff I haven't done anything with in a long while.

They showed up earlier than we expected with the freezer so we didn't have to wait around for them much. We ran lots of errands today. The post office, bank, drivers license office Maria needed to renew her's today. Then we had a nice lunch at Applebee's. Then Maria and I spent a long time at Sam's getting stuff to put in the freezer. I don't think we will be eating out again for awhile. Tomorrow its back to work with an early morning stop at the vet to drop of the black cat for her spaying.

We went shopping today. Got myself some more jeans. Since in a matter of two months a ripped several pairs of jeans at work on various sharp corners. Those corners have now been dulled. Sometimes with hammers. ;) Maria got some clearance warm socks that she likes to wear around the house. Stopped by Lowes to get the new electrical outlet and cover. Had a good lunch at our favorite Mexican place. Came home and I installed the outlet and finished tidying up the porch, everything is ready for tomorrows delivery. Hopefully it will be an early delivery I really don't want to waste Maria's birthday on waiting for a new appliance.

I'm thankful for Maria the love of my life.
I'm thankful for a house I can actually afford.
I'm thankful for having a job that seems pretty secure.

I hope you all have a Happy Thanksgiving.

Shoveling

First time for the winter season I used the snow blower and shoveled the stubborn spots. Since it was mostly ice pellets they didn't get blown very far. Almost got called in last night. Seems that the RCAG wasn't communicating with ZAU. Phone company wouldn't come out in the weather so I didn't have to go in. This morning they called and said it was working again. I told them I'd check it tomorrow the make sure everything was working properly.

Arrgh!

Damn! The siding and widows guys are here early, I wasn't expecting them until next week. They came yesterday and ripped the siding off one side of the house.
So after getting home from work yesterday I ran around the house to finish several of the projects that we started last weekend. Got the back door foamed and most of the shims cut off, got a couple more left that I wanted to wait until the foam dried over night. Cleaned out the back porch and removed a bunch of debris that my Dad and I created during the door replacement. This should give them plenty of room to move about while closing off one window and replacing two others on the back porch.

Spent this long weekend on doing stuff around the house. My parents came over to help out. My Dad and I put in a new Storm door over the front door as the old one was getting very beat up and it provided little protection from the cold. We also removed the old storm door on the back door and replaced it with a new steel door since we didn't really have a real door on the back. Now the house will be more energy efficient. Still have some more stuff to do myself but got most of the hard stuff done while my Dad was here.
We have a couple of weeks to go before they begin the job of replacing all the windows and putting on new siding and adding insulation to the walls and more in the ceiling. Its going to be expensive but with the cost of heating and cooling the house only going up we figure that it will pay for itself.

Took Maria's new Jewelery Crate Box out of my car and up stairs into the bed room. Damn that thing is heavy. Did some spring cleaning, I cleaned all the ceiling fans in the house so they won't spread any dusk that has collected on them during the winter. Did the dishes and a few other things. After three weeks away I'll be at work tomorrow. I wonder what they have left for me to do.
