Cracked open my new Hanna-Barbera Classic Collection Thundarr the Barbarian. Much nicer than the crappy bootleg I got off ebay years ago. I really don't know why I like this show the animation is not that great, its a silly world and the voice acting is really not that good. But it really spoke to my young self that was so fascinated with post apocalyptic books and movies Planet of the Apes included. In some ways it was the closest I will more than likely ever get to a Kamandi TV show.

That was the best SF/Fantasy/Comic movie of the year! I'm not saying this because I'm a big POTA fan either. As much as I wanted to like the one that Tim Burton did I just couldn't it really wasn't good at all. Some neat ideas in it but poorly handled.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes was both a great homage to the original movies and bright new beginning to a new Planet of the Apes franchise and yes I think they will make at least another one. The call backs to the original movie were worked in seamlessly. To the very blatant "Get your hands off me you damn dirty ape!" to the much more subtle, the name of the orangutan "Maurice" which is a call back to the actor who played Dr. Zaius in the original Planet of the Apes and Beneath the Planet of the Apes. Yes I'm that big of a POTA nerd. One of the fun things about this movie it really could be considered a prequel to the first Apes movie. It fits very well with it. The others not so much. Considering that in some ways this is a remake of Conquest of the Planet of the Apes.
The CG in this movie was amazing. Avatars CG has nothing on this. The ape characters were very realistic. How they blended everything with the live action was astounding. CG special effects have come a long way and this movie shows how they can be used to add a fantastic element to mundane scene and not look shockingly out of place.
The acting was top notch. Andy Serkis and John Lithgow were both outstanding. They should both get awards but this film will mostly likely only get special effects awards when Oscars come around.

Done gushing now.
